Support to live life - Day Opportunities

As part of Life Path Trust’s approach, we work with people with learning disabilities to maximise their potential and live the life they want to lead. This involves choices about leisure time, activities, following interests, developing hobbies, participating in the local community, learning to be safe and maintaining well-being. This service connects people in the community to access other groups.

So, what kind of activities do you organise?

We organise a variety of activities, courses and social groups. Our approach is always person-centred with staff supporting individuals to identify peoples’ goals and ambitions then linking up with others with the same interests throughout Coventry.

In our centres we organise activities including cooking lessons, self-advocacy, games, music, arts and crafts, drama and so on. With staff support, small groups of people share activities in the community such as cinema and live shows. We also visit places of interest, do some outdoor activities like bowling and sessions at the gym but also visit local cafes and pubs.

Where do you organise these Day Opportunities?

In Coventry, our community base centre is located in…

Henry Fry Community Centre

It is open from 9am to 3:30 pm. We organise 4-6 different activities per day. The people decide the activities they want to do. The activities change every 6-8 weeks. They can vary from art & craft, zumba, drama, cinema, pets therapy, swimming (in summer), life skills activities (understanding money, budgeting, safety sessions…). Some activities require more resources or external facilitators than others, so we might charge for some of the activities.

Can people choose the activity they want to do?

Yes! There are always several activities organised the same day. Every month our participants meet and tell us what they liked and what they didn’t. They also choose and ask for any changes for the following month.

How much is it and do you provide meals?

We don’t provide food, so we encourage people to bring their own packed lunch unless they are doing cooking class. There is a small fee for some activities. It covers the staff costs but these are set costs and you may get help with this.
When you are going to outdoor activities you will need to pay for travel and transport costs.
